10-07-13 Lefty, Le Poule de L’Ombre Gaucher

2:15 pm Light sun showers this morning. By the time I got to the girls’ coop, the sun was bright and the air had a bit of nip to it in the shade.

As each of the girls came out of the coop, they let me lightly run my hand over their back feathers – all but Lefty. She jumped aside and let out a harsh cluck.

After the others had gone grazing, Lefty approached and nodded her head toward the coop. Inside she spoke in a heavily Parisian accent, “I am an artist professional. I expect to be treated with respect. In my homeland, I am known as Le Poule de L’Ombre Gaucher. You may call me Lefty. You have judged me for the rough sketch of le monster, but I assure you my work is well respected. Let me show you.”

From somewhere behind her, she pulled out a canvas.

I was stunned. “Where did you get the materials?” I asked.

“I found canvases and oils in the house. I prefer using my own feathers to brushes.” she said with pride.

With a little encouragement, she brought out more:
